The VPRO is developing the six-part drama series "Koning van de Wallen" (King of the Walls) together with Lemming Film, directed by Tim Oliehoek. The series, which will be released on NPO Start in the fall of 2027, follows the life of Casa Rosso founder Maurits de Vries, also known as Zwarte Joop. The story shows his rise from Holocaust survivor to leader of a sex and gambling empire in the post-war Amsterdam Red Light District. The series highlights the historical and cultural development of the Red Light District from the 1940s to the 1980s.
