Eye Filmmuseum suffered a record loss of €3.2 million in 2025, causing equity to virtually evaporate and rendering the institution technically bankrupt, according to Het Parool, which reviewed the draft annual accounts. The largest loss item concerns €1.3 million in personnel costs, nearly half of which went to severance payments, while the temporarily self-operated catering generated a loss of €988,000 and required a settlement of €240,000. Interim Managing Director John Middelweerd and Financial Director Maral Mohsenin have developed a recovery plan aiming for cost neutrality this year, under which Eye intends to add two to three hundred thousand euros to equity annually starting in 2027.
