SunneKlaas, a secret holiday tradition on Ameland. We Dutch people are familiar with an annual tradition called Sinterklaas, which is not the case on Ameland during the week of 5 December. They have come up with their own version. During SunneKlaas, women and children are not allowed to go outside when it is dark. The island is virtually flat, no cars are driven, lampposts remain off and no lights are allowed to burn inside. Men go to secret party locations on the island and celebrate their tradition there. Especially THEIR tradition. Nosy voyeurs are certainly not appreciated on the island. This is why the media is fully on it. They want to find out about the mysterious tradition and know how it goes. For example, a local broadcaster decides to sneak onto the island on 2 December and try to attend the holidays. The residents of Ameland are not happy about this. Nosy voyeurs must pay, nothing may come out. They want to make this clear with a statement to the broadcaster with consequences.

This year SunneKlaas will be different for the people of Ameland.
