Marcel Visbeen (The Hague, 1966) is a writer and director. He studied theatre, film and television studies at Utrecht University. After graduating, he worked as a director of non-fiction programs for various broadcasters. He was, among other things, compiler/director of Sportpaleis de Jong of the VPRO.

In 1997 he co-founded production company Pupkin Film, for which he made his first short film Elvis Lives! made. The film won the NPS prize for the best short film and was selected for a large number of national and international festivals.
After that, Marcel focused more on drama and wrote and directed short films and television films, including six episodes in the series Goede Daden bij Daglicht for the VPRO; the Novelle Blackout for the NPS and the One Night Stand: Lost for the VARA. He also directed episodes for the drama series Hartslag (NCRV) and Hidden Geroken (Net5).
In addition, he made many commercials, video clips and television programs as a director and producer. His commissioned film The Tech Files won seven awards, including a Silver Medal at the New York Festivals.

In 2005 he was co-writer, director and co-producer of the Telefilm Dangerous State for Pupkin Film and the NPS. Not long after that he left Pupkin Film and started his own production company Selwyn Film.

The first Selwyn film, American Dreams by Eelko Ferwerda, won the prize for best short film at the Hollywood Film Festival in 2006. Selwyn Film then produced the feature film Linoleum entirely under its own management, for which Marcel was not only a director, but also a co-writer. , producer and editor. Linoleum was awarded and selected at various national and international festivals and found an international sales agent in the French company Insomia World Sales.

In addition to his film and television work, Marcel is also active as a theater maker and prose writer. He made the parade performance Nuvolari! with Daniel Boissevain and Ocobar and directed Harmonium, Laagland and Outsiders, the successful performances by Ricky Koole and Leo Blokhuis.
In March 2009 his first book With the steering wheel between the teeth was published by LJVeen Publishers. It is a collection of literary stories about prominent extras in Grand Prix history.

Marcel recently directed several episodes of the popular drama series Dokter Tinus and Moordvrouw. He was also creative producer for Moordvrouw during the second and third seasons, a position he will also fulfill for the upcoming fourth season of Dokter Tinus.
