In 1978, Asha Ghurahoo first became acquainted with dance in the form of ballet and jazz at SKVR Dance School. Not much later, she came into contact with traditional Indian classical dance. She began to delve into the cultural background of these dance styles. At the end of 1996, she obtained her diploma in the dance styles Odissi, Bharat-Natyam and Kathak at the Chandra Sukhai Dance Academy in Zoetermeer. She also specialized in various folk dances from India. And she qualified as a World Dance teacher and children's yoga teacher. For further deepening and to further develop herself in making choreographies, she followed courses at the Ganesh Acharya Dance Academy in Mumbai, India and lessons with one of the most famous choreographers from India, Saroj Khan.
She created choreographies for various (amateur) dance productions, which she brought to the stage with, among others, students from her own dance school.
Asha Ghurahoo has her own dance school in Capelle a/d IJsel. Her dance school Ashakiran was admitted to the UNESCO International Dance Council CID in 2015 and is therefore recognized worldwide
I have also received accreditation from NBDK; the Dutch Professional Association for Dance Professionals.
