KINSKI-PAGANINI
Directed by Klaus Kinski
95 minutes
In English
Actor Klaus Kinski\'s decades long dream was to make a film about Niccolo Paganini- the Italian composer who had been described by Shelly as \"a vampire with a violin\". So obsessed with this subject Kinski even came to believe that he was the reincarnation of the notorious violin player/composer. This vision lead him to make this film which he shot using his friends and family as actors, since there was very little money for the project.
Don\'t expect normal character development nor even plot development in this bio-pic- this film is as wild and erratic as Paganini\'s compositions were. The film charts the most successful years of Paganini, when he was the rage of Europe, as Paganini dashes from country to country, from concert to concert, while angry fathers are hot on his heals for deflowering their young virgin daughters.
Kinski\'s devil-may-care attitude together with his unbridled passion makes one wonder in the end- is this actually the biography of Paganini or of Kinski himself? Some have described this film as visual poetry, but if it is indeed a poem, it is one that is written in blood.
