What is MOraBO?
MOraBO is a film & theatre festival that travels through the Czech Republic in the distinctive regions of Moravia and Bohemia. The festival brings filmmakers and actors from around the world together to hone their skills in their respective crafts, provide participants a creative environment to collaborate and produce short films, and offer a platform for the films to be viewed and recognized. Through this shared travel experience MOraBO aims to give participants the opportunity to express themselves artistically while gaining an appreciation of the cinematic process through a spirit of teamwork and togetherness.
Festival Structure
The festival consists of a three-week program broken into weeklong units. Each unit is held in a different area of the Czech Republic. Workshops featuring film and theatre professionals are held throughout the week. These informative tutorials are intended to further the participant's skills and knowledge of the film and theater production process.
The festival consists of a Weekly Competition, and an Acting Intensive. Participants are divided into groups of filmmakers and actors. The two groups receive separate training, but all accommodation and traveling is done as one entity.
The Weekly Competition
Film participants are given one week to produce a short film. At the end of the week there is a screening of all films produced during the week and the audience votes for the winning film.
At the beginning of every week a meeting held and participants pitch an idea for a film. Next the filmmaker selects a crew and submits a form to the staff with all the necessary information needed to approve the production. Then the filmmaker is free to begin production on the film. The festival organizers will do everything in their power to provide each filmmaker with the resources and equipment needed to maximize production value and to create the best possible product.
The Acting Intensive
Theatre participants attend a three-week long acting intensive led by trained theatre professionals. The daily workshops last several hours per day covering both theatre acting and film acting. In Addition, the theatre participants will be encouraged to participate in weekly films as actors or crew.
