Inspiration every filmmaker needs it. That sometimes-elusive little seed that is necessary to grow into a brilliant idea. The spark to fire the beginning of any creative project. Where do filmmakers find their inspiration? What inspires them?
And once an idea has taken hold, how is it then turned into a plan, and action?
For the third time this year Amsterdam film theatre Rialto and Binger Filmlab present an inspired evenings screening and conversation with international filmmakers developing their feature film projects in the Binger Writers Lab.
On December 8, screenwriter, script editor and director of Amsterdam Writers, Matthew Curlewis will coax three filmmakers into sharing a few of their secrets about where they find inspiration. Jennifer Kent (Australia), Tali Shalom Ezer (Israel) and Vuk Rsumovic (Serbia) will each show one of their prizewinning short films, and by also showing excerpts from films or other art forms that inspired them, give some insight into the creative choices they made.
The short films are respectively Monster (Jennifer Kent / 2005, shown at over forty festivals worldwide including the international film festivals of Telluride, Sydney, Montreal and Palm Springs and Aspen Shortfest where it won the Audience Award and the Ellen Award for distinctive achievement), Living Room (Tali Shalom Ezer 2006, participated in Tous les Cinmas du Monde section of International Film Festival Cannes, selected for the Jerusalem Film Festival, Haifa Film Festival and presented at the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival), and Clay Pigeon (written by Vuk Rsumovic / directed by animator Milos Tomic / 2005, that amongst others won the Award for Best Film of the Goethe Institut in Prague, Czech Republic, Special Award of the Erasmus Foundation in Anger, France and the Special Prize at Animation Dreams, Tallinn, Estonia).
Inspiration Night is for film lovers, and anyone else curious about creativity.
