Activist and filmmaker Saeed Taji Farouky opened the latest edition of This Is Film!: Film Heritage in Practice on March 4th at Eye Filmmuseum. This year's program focuses on the future of film programming. Farouky, founder of the Radical Film School, spoke about the Palestine Film Institute, which has managed Palestinian film heritage since 2019. Eighty percent of the archive, confiscated by Israel in 1982, has since been recovered through duplicates and donations. He positioned the Palestine Film Unit within the Third Cinema movement, which uses film as a revolutionary weapon. He criticized A-list festivals like the Berlinale for avoiding political positions while profiting from Palestinian films.
