Maria Molina Peiró’s documentary **Like Any Other Mortal (Como Todo Mortal)** celebrates its world premiere in the CPH:DOX Next:Wave Competition, produced by near/by film in co-production with Barcelona-based 15L Films. The film is set in Río Tinto, Andalusia, whose red-blooded landscape so closely resembles Mars that NASA has used it for future colonization plans, while astrobiologists study extremophile bacteria that could challenge the theory of evolution. Molina Peiró weaves together science fiction, folklore, and real-world science, as a robotic probe explores a distant planet while inhabitants live beneath mountains of mining waste that conceal buried cities and memories.
