David Verbeek, who has been active internationally for two decades, presents his ninth feature film, The Wolf, the Fox and the Leopard, which is now showing in Dutch cinemas after a premiere in the Tribeca competition. The dystopian drama follows a woman raised by wolves, played by the Irish actress Jessica Reynolds, who is being prepared on an abandoned oil platform for a return to a society threatened by climate change, while her guides have themselves already given up faith in that society. Verbeek deliberately combines the archetypal wolf-child motif with ecological urgency and poses the question of whether human civilization is even worth pursuing as a foothold for someone who grew up outside its rules.
