Dan Geesin's new film *A Failed Tribute to Motherly Love* originated from a note written in 2008 in the aftermath of a relationship in which he never expressed his desire for children, which caused him a burnout he describes as an explosion. He carries this literalness through in the film, where a protagonist who keeps too much inside actually explodes. Geesin describes it as a fairy tale for adults filmed like children's horror, with BBC youth series from the seventies as a reference, because limited resources and raw unpredictability generate authenticity. Playfulness, wordplay, and absurd names like Aunt Fries serve as a means of expression, not as an escape. The film will be in theaters from April 30, 2026.
