From May 7 to 10, 2026, the Framed Festival presents the program Beyond the Naked Eye at the Groninger Forum, dedicated to surrealism in animation, featuring screenings of titles such as Angel's Egg by Mamoru Oshii, Alice by Jan Švankmajer, It's Such a Beautiful Day by Don Hertzfeldt, Paprika by Satoshi Kon, and Spirited Away by Miyazaki. Special attention should be paid to Bubble Bath by György Kovásznai, a Hungarian animated film from 1979 that surrealistically depicts reality through constantly shifting drawing styles, with Kovásznai calling his approach "anima vérité" as a deliberate counterweight to the Disney aesthetic.
