VPRO is cutting 58 jobs as a result of budget cuts at the public broadcaster, affecting the media and production sides as well as support departments, while fourteen new positions are being created. General Director Zakia Guernina describes it as "a black day in the hundred-year history" of the broadcaster, because employees dedicated to journalism and storytelling are losing their jobs. The cut is more severe than the previously estimated 35 to 45 job losses mentioned in December, and the program Zomergasten will also not return after the upcoming series.
