Sophie Olga de Jong and Sytske Kok discuss their short animated film A Dog's Life, which has been selected for the Annecy 2026 short film competition following previous selections for Cinekid and the International Trickfilm-Festival Stuttgart. The film, produced by Peter Lindhout for Spotted Bird, originated from a true story in which Kok's parents' dog died and her nieces asked curious questions about what was happening underground. The nine-minute film uses orange and blue as primary colors to visualize the material and spiritual aspects of death, respectively, with timing and the balance between emotion and comedy being essential for the final editing.
