The Musée du Cinéma d'Animation in Annecy, which also hosts two temporary exhibitions, celebrates the vast variety of animation techniques, rediscovering historical devices such as the pinscreen of Alexandre Alexeïeff and Claire Parker alongside work by creators like Michael Dudok de Wit, Jan Švankmajer, and Ari Folman. However, the dominant computer animation, Japanese anime, and online animation remain largely underexposed, while the presentation focuses too much on the technological form and too little on substantive themes such as world-building, which the temporary Ankama exhibition partially compensates for by creating a sense of immersion in a complete world.
