The cutbacks at the public broadcaster affect a much larger group than official layoff extras suggest, with the NPO eliminating two director positions and broadcasters such as BNNVARA, KRO-NCRV, VPRO, and HUMAN collectively eliminating hundreds of jobs. In addition to these visible reductions, freelance assignments are also disappearing silently, as this group falls outside social plans and does not appear in reorganization notices. Stricter enforcement of the DBA Act reinforces this effect, as broadcasters are becoming more reluctant to employ freelancers on a structural basis, meaning that chief editors, producers, editors, and researchers simply no longer receive new assignments without this being registered as a dismissal.
