Ilke Paddenburg presents her short film *A Shot at Art* at the Netherlands Film Festival, in which two middle-aged volunteers at the Art at Sea art festival accidentally participate in a live performance about patriarchy, with unexpected consequences. The film stems from Paddenburg's need to translate feminist activism into what she calls "compassionate satire," because direct confrontation alienates her surroundings. She feels that Dutch films lack the metaphor and the ability to make viewers co-responsible for the systems of which they themselves are a part, whereas the work of Charlie Kaufman inspires her through the combination of emotion, philosophy, and imaginative externalization of inner conflicts.
