Noor Kolsters made her directorial debut as a graduation film at the HKU with *Overgaan*. The film follows eight-year-old Mirre in the days following the death of her best friend. Kolsters based the story partly on her own childhood experience. As a child, she lost her best friend Ruben and recognized the guilt that grief can evoke in children. The film shows how children grieve without the social scripts that adults employ. Kolsters conducted anthropological fieldwork in schoolyards to collect authentic child language. Cinematographer Niels Lokhorst filmed in warm close-ups from Mirre's perspective. *Overgaan* is screening at the Netherlands Film Festival.
