The Dutch Media Authority (Commissariaat voor de Media) has published a new supervisory framework for journalistic quality at national public broadcasters. The framework describes the safeguards broadcasters must have in place to guarantee independent journalism. According to the Authority, the growth of disinformation, AI, and news consumption via social media makes this urgent. Editorial autonomy remains the guiding principle, but the broadcaster's board bears ultimate responsibility. The supervision comprises eight components, including governance, editorial charter, risk management, and transparency. The Authority is currently investigating six national broadcasters and will share the findings later in a general report. The framework also applies to regional and local public broadcasters.
