De Eerste Zone, the low-budget film by director Thom Lunshof, had its world premiere at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The film, made for just €266,000, is set in a flooded Northern Netherlands and followed a laborious production under harsh conditions on the water. Screen Daily praised the film as a realistic drama with magical qualities. The Sean Connery Prize went to competitor Skintown, but the reactions from the public and trade press were remarkably positive. Lunshof collaborated with screenwriter Sam Dijkstra and producer Marrit Greidanus. Following an earlier win in Les Arcs, talks with other festivals are now underway, after which a Dutch premiere will follow.
