Ashgan El-Hamus is bringing her debut film, Al Baraneya, to its world premiere at the Giornate degli Autori in Venice. The film is set in the Egyptian village of Al Baraneya, near Cairo, where her family comes from. A visit five years ago inspired her to undertake the project. The cast consists largely of her own family members, who play slightly fictionalized versions of themselves. Only lead actress Reem Amer read the script. Al Baraneya is produced by Baldr Film, with Seera as the Egyptian co-producer and the Belgian company Czar. The Benelux release is scheduled for early 2027.
