Minister Letschert intends to radically reform the public broadcasting system. The current number of broadcasters must be reduced to four broadcasting houses. NOS and NTR will merge into a single organization. The system will be closed to new broadcasters. The NPO will retain a coordinating role, albeit a lighter one. The Minister considers the current system too fragmented to respond adequately to digitalization and international streaming services. Oversight of journalistic quality will be tightened: the Media Authority can take administrative action in the event of structural violations. Public media services must become easier to find on television and possibly online as well. The legislative proposal will enter online consultation very soon and will be submitted to the House of Representatives in the spring of 2027.
