In *The Clearing*, Sabine Groenewegen investigates the colonial nyai system on Sumatran rubber plantations and the systematic oppression of women. The film, produced by near/by film, won the Best Film Award at DokuFest and is having its Dutch premiere at IDFA. Groenewegen uses critical fabulation and the feminist art language Láadan to make unspoken women's experiences visible.
