The documentary Cemetery State will be screened at De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam on Saturday, September 11 at 8:30 PM and Sunday, September 12 at 2:00 PM!

In the documentary Cemetary State, Filip De Boeck invites you on a bewildering visit to Kintambo, one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Kinshasa. Although the cemetery was officially closed twenty years ago, people from the surrounding slum continue to bury their dead there. Young people and children have taken over the management of death. The dead are like toys in their hands; the coffin is a football they eagerly pounce on. Cemetary State observes how young gravediggers, singers, and drummers use their funeral rituals as an alternative platform to challenge their parents and the establishment.
