“Obscurianti” (working title) is a short documentary portrait of Michael Helmerhorst, theater director and owner of one of the largest (perhaps the largest) private film collections in the Netherlands. Housed in an old building in the heart of Amsterdam’s Red Light District is his collection of bizarre, obscure, and sometimes even shocking film prints. What once began as a modest collection of background images for his theater pieces has blossomed into a totally unmanageable collection that has slowly taken over Michael’s entire life and living space.

What we offer
The project is self-funded. I hope the subject appeals to someone and that we can create something beautiful together. If that sounds like fun, we can also see if we can visit Michael sometime.

Job requirements / profile
We spent a full day shooting with Michael, including a nice interview and a few other scenes. A Da Vinci project is already ready, everything synced, and a timeline with my selections. Michael has also already provided some footage from his collection as B-roll and is willing to supply more if needed. With Michael's footage and his distinctive way of speaking, it could turn into a peculiar film. I am running short on time to finish this myself and would also like to get a fresh perspective on the material. We can then create a structure together; it shouldn't turn into a complex edit.
