Opening film HAFF 2010 - Chico y Rita

The opening film of the 14th edition of the Holland Animation Film Festival is Chico y Rita, a passionate love story directed by Javier Mariscal, Fernando Trueba, and Tono Errando. We are in Cuba, 1948. A talented pianist and songwriter and an extremely charming singer pursue their dreams, and each other. From Havana to New York, Las Vegas, and vice versa. Chico y Rita is an epic of love and heartbreak in the tradition of the Spanish ballad, the bolero.

Javier Mariscal, the successful Spanish artist, comic book illustrator, and designer, is directing alongside Oscar winner Fernando Trueba (Belle Epoque) and Mariscal's younger brother Tono Errando. Javier Mariscal designs furniture, interiors, and tableware, among other things, and is not to be forgotten as the designer of the poster for the Holland Animation Film Festival in 1992 and part of the 2004 poster. Mariscal will be present at the festival.

Longtime friends Mariscal and Trueba share a passion for the jazz music and culture of Cuba. The result is a musical feel-good film set against an impressive backdrop of the cities. The 14th edition of the Holland Animation Film Festival opens beautifully with the feature-length animated film Chico y Rita.
