Holland Animation Film Festival

Special guest HAFF 2010: Javier Mariscal
The opening film of the 14th Holland Animation Film Festival is Chico y Rita, a Cuban love story directed by Javier Mariscal, his younger brother Tonno Errando, and Oscar winner Fernando Trueba. Javier Mariscal is a guest in Utrecht during the Holland Animation Film Festival.

Mariscal (Spain, Valencia, 1950) is first and foremost a designer. He works in a wide range of disciplines: furniture, paintings, sculptures, illustrations, comics, animation, interior design, product design, landscapes, and web design. In 1979, he became world-famous for his Bar Cel Ona (bar, sky, wave) logo for the city of Barcelona. In 1989, he opened his studio, Estudio Mariscal, with which he recently created the interior design and graphics for the H&M in Barcelona.

The Making of Chico y Rita - Saturday November 6, 4:30 PM
In The Making of Chico y Rita, Javier Mariscal explains how he made the film together with director Fernando Trueba and Tono Errando. Havana had to be a little warmer, Paris a bit more colorful, and New York a bit colder, because it is winter there when Chico visits his Rita. After six years of work, Mariscal continued to refine his first feature-length animated film, Chico y Rita, right up until the very last moment.

Comic Art Fair, Saturday, November 6, from 10:00 AM, free admission.
Mariscal will also be a guest at the KunstStripBeurs during the HAFF on Saturday, November 6, in the Janskerk Utrecht. Get acquainted with comics and art, art comics and comic art, starting at 10:00 AM. Nearly one hundred (comic) artists, designers, and illustrators will present their work: books, T-shirts, buttons, screen prints, and originals.
