Jan Smit makes his acting debut. The 25-year-old singer has the leading role in the film Het Bombardement, about the German air raid on Rotterdam in 1940. He reveals this in AD on Saturday.
Smit will play amateur boxer Vincent de Graaf, who is central to the film. He calls it 'an opportunity far too good to pass up', even though he initially had his doubts. "I was very honored that they wanted me without having to audition, but immediately thought: does Jan Smit fit as a hero in a war film? I thought it was a crazy idea," the singer admits in the newspaper.
However, after a good conversation with director Ate de Jong and producer Paul Ruven, the Volendammer changed his mind. "'Bring it on' I thought when I read the beautiful script. I'm just going to do it."
Smit has to spend a lot of time in the gym in the coming months in preparation for his role. The shooting of Het Bombardement will start in 2012 and will be released in cinemas around Christmas of that year.
