On Friday, September 23, Guusje van Deuren won the NVS Producers Award for her graduation films GEEN WEG TERUG (drama) and KLUIZENAAR (documentary). This award is presented annually by the producers' association NVS during the Netherlands Film Festival to encourage promising young producers. The ceremony took place at 5:00 PM at the Louis Hartlooper Complex 1, following the 'Day of Makers of Tomorrow'. This is the third year the award has been presented. The main criterion is the manner in which the producer functioned within the producer-director-screenwriter triangular relationship of the filmmakers.

Other nominees for the NVS Producers Award for best producer of a graduation film were Edwin Goldman, ALS IK JOU NIET HAD (documentary), DESIDERATUM (drama) and HET ONOPMERKELIJKE LEVEN VAN HANS BOORMAN (drama), and Nanneke Landman, DESTINY (documentary) and ONZE VADERS (documentary).

The NVS Producers Award consists of a prize of EUR 5,000 from the Dutch Association of Feature Film Producers. Last year, the prize was awarded to Floor Houwink ten Cate and Jemima van der Tholen for the productions MO and WINTERSLAAP IN LUKIMOR. The jury members of the NVS Producers Award are producers Hanneke Niens (KeyFilm) and San Fu Maltha (Fu Works).

The jury commends Guusje van Deuren for her guiding principles in setting up a project: relevance and urgency. According to the jury, she succeeded in getting the best out of the team and clearly also left her mark on the final creative product. The jury concludes: 'Certainly with the film GEEN WEG TERUG, a film that matters, Guusje shows she is on her way to becoming a producer who matters.'

About the NVS Producers Award

By awarding this prize, the NVS aims to encourage young production talent to give substance to the profession of producer as the NVS envisions it: the producer as maker, driving force, and creative entrepreneur.

The role of the producer within the producer-director-screenwriter triangle was assessed on various aspects, such as his or her substantive influence during the development, production, and post-production phases, and the producer's influence on the final cut. Additionally, the producer's input on the selection of the cast and heads of department, the course of production, the market potential of the project, financing and the shooting schedule, the positioning of the project, and the final evaluation of the overall combination of story, direction, cinematography, music/effects/sound, production design, and CGI (computer-generated imagery) was considered.
