Viegeltje to be seen in Chinese cinemas

Sales agent Delphis Film has sold the Chinese theatrical distribution rights to the China Children's Association. This makes IEP! one of the first Dutch family films to be shown on the big screen in China. The planned release date is June 1, 2012, International Children's Day. Due to an import quota for foreign films, no more than 50 foreign films are purchased in China annually, the majority of which come from Hollywood.

IEP! had its world premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2010. Just over a month later, IEP! received the Golden Film for the 100,000th visitor, after which the film won various awards such as the Youth Jury Award in Vancouver, the Children's Jury Award in Milan, the Audience Choice Award at the Buster International Children's Film Festival in Copenhagen, and the Grand Prix at the Montreal International Film Festival. IEP! has since been sold to more than 14 countries, including Spain, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, and Japan. Last year, the film premiered in Asia at the China International Children's Film Festival, and IEP! was screened this past weekend at the Taiwan International Children's Film Festival.

IEP! tells the story of Viegeltje, a girl with wings instead of arms. The film is based on the award-winning children's book of the same name by Joke van Leeuwen and is a co-production with A Private View and NTR. The screenplay was written by Mieke de Jong (Tony 10, Oorlogswinter).

The Dutch television premiere of IEP! is this coming Sunday, April 8, at 3:30 PM on Z@PP on Ned 3.
