Last weekend, the film WATER CHILDREN by Aliona van der Horst won the DOXA FEATURE DOCUMENTARY AWARD in Vancouver, Canada.

WATER CHILDREN is a poetic, sensual film about fertility, and as such, an ode to women and the body.

The jury presses the film as 'It is a film from the heart...a film that seeks out gentle words and ceremonies to articulate the experience of all women, and indirectly, of their sons. And, as in many memorable documentaries, the relationship between the filmmaker and, in this case, her subject, develops into a mutual exchange, a complex and intimate sharing of the experience and the moment'.

Filmmaker Aliona van der Horst previously received an Honorary Mention at DOK Leipzig and a nomination for the Golden Calf for Best Dutch Documentary for this film. In 2011, the film screened in various Dutch cinemas.

WATER CHILDREN will be rebroadcast by VPRO on June 7 at 14:35.
