Announcement and call for film submissions
Beeld voor Beeld is a documentary film festival where culture and image formation take center stage. Emerging from visual anthropology, the festival screens documentaries about diverse (sub)cultures and offers a meeting place for filmmakers and the public with different cultural backgrounds. In addition to the screening of documentaries, seminars are organized to delve deeper into specific themes. All filmmakers are present, and much attention is paid to the discussion between them and the audience.
Registration is open to any production dealing with culture, representation, and/or social issues, or that fits within the theme of the festival.
So films that do not fit the theme are also eligible for selection.
Additionally, there will be a section dedicated to student films. This section is open to all visual anthropology programs and other documentary film programs, provided the films fit within the general framework of the festival.
In addition to screening 'general' films dealing with culture and image formation, attention will be paid in 2008 to:
World music in pictures
We focus primarily on documentaries that place world music in a social and cultural context. Special attention will be given to films dealing with the changes within musical forms resulting from the contact between different musical styles, traditions, and cultures.
Deadline for submissions: 13 February 2009
(If the deadline causes problems, please contact us).
