Director Martin Koolhoven is going to shoot his first English-language film. The shooting of The Ugly, a western about a gang of cowboys, will take place in Spain early next year. Koolhoven announced this on Monday.

The actors are not yet known, but the director assumes that Dutch people will also be cast for the project. The film is being co-produced by Isabella Films, which also co-produced Oorlogswinter. The budget for the western is around 4.5 million euros.

The 40-year-old director created his biggest hit to date last year with *Oorlogswinter*, the film adaptation of the famous book by Jan Terlouw. Before that, Koolhoven made highly acclaimed films such as *Knetter*, *De Grot*, *Het Zuiden*, and crowd-pleaser *Het Schnitzelparadijs*.
