Episode III - Enjoy Poverty probes the emotional and economic value of Africa's most lucrative export: filmed poverty.

As is also the case for more traditional African export products—cocoa, gold—the suppliers are anything but better off from their new African merchandise. Deep in the Congolese interior, the Dutch artist Renzo Martens launched a
Awareness program to awaken the realization among the poor that poverty is the primary raw material they can cash in.

Martens undertook an epic journey on his own for years. Episode III - Enjoy Poverty, a combination of investigative journalism, satire, and a self-aware, idiosyncratic perspective, is an ingenious and provocative work that is often ironic and hilarious.
