Bennie Roeters wins German screenplay prize with NORDIC WALKING

Bennie Roeters has won the Drehbuchfrderpreis from the German city of Münster with his film project Nordic Walking. The prize comes with a sum of 3,000. Bennie Roeters personally accepted the award.

The biennial prize aims to promote films set in the countryside. A Dutch-German jury selected Nordic Walking from 59 European entries. The film will be directed by Remy van Heugten and produced by Circe Films.

The film project previously received support from the Film Fund and a cash prize from film insurers operating in the Netherlands. Nordic Walking is about a childless couple who are taken by surprise by the wife's pregnancy when the husband retires. The story is based on a true medical case.

Bennie Roeters (1952) works as an author for television, film, and theater. He has written screenplays for feature films, children's series, a crime series, and single plays commissioned by NPS, AVRO, KRO, VPRO, and VARA, among others. He made his debut in 1999 with the novel *Fins Plot*, followed by *De Verstopte Stad* in 2004. *Gagarins engelen* was published recently.
