with dinner, film and debate, has the theme on Wednesday, November 4:

20 YEARS AFTER THE FALL OF THE BERLIN WALL
The revolution through the eyes of Dutch filmmakers

What impact did this momentous event have on the lives of the inhabitants of the former Eastern Bloc?
How have they had to adjust their worldview, ideals, and ideological views in a short time?
How did they seize new opportunities? And what became of their dreams for the future?
Dutch filmmakers who captured these turbulent times in a poignant manner,
show excerpts from their own work and discuss with each other and the audience.

The guests are:
Peter and Petra Lataster-Czisch, duo that made three documentaries in the GDR: Droomland DDR
(2003), Time the Flow (1999) and Stories of a River (1994).
Stories of a River won a Golden Calf for best feature documentary.
This film shows what happens to four inhabitants of Dessau, Petra's birthplace, after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Jessica Gorter, filmmaker and editor who made, among others, two documentaries about Russia: Piter (2004) and Ferryman across
the Volga (1998). In Piter, she follows the daily lives of seven inhabitants of Saint Petersburg during a time of historical transition.

Gerard Jacobs, a journalist who witnessed the collapse of the Soviet Union up close and saw how the inhabitants of Siberia on
tried to build a new life in the ruins of the communist utopia.
About his experiences, he made the film 'Stalin Had Promised a Bridge' (1996), among others, with which he won a Golden Calf for best short documentary.

Marlise Huijzer, a cultural anthropologist specializing in the subjects of the GDR, Ostalgie, and Ostprodukte, gives an introduction and
leads the conversation.
