On Monday, August 31, it is time again for the first NBF networking drinks after the summer break. During this evening, the world of visual effects will take center stage, specifically focusing on practice on set and in post-production.

Have you ever been on a set and heard the remark: 'we'll fix that in post-production', or 'we did it that way last time too', or: 'we'll just smooth it out in post-production'? Comments that sometimes cost the production thousands of euros in (extra) costs.

When should you have a VFX supervisor or assistant come to the set? Why are some VFX shots so expensive and others so easy to do, and why does VFX become so complicated when 3D animation is involved?

VFX for Dummies, not in book form, but as a presentation by Kasper Oerlemans and Dennis Kleyn, two leading VFX supervisors in the Netherlands. Last year, there was a special day about VFX during the film festival. One of the highlights of that day was a presentation by Dennis and Kasper on a number of basic principles regarding VFX.

Basic knowledge, or rather basic awareness, that every cameraman/producer/production manager/first assistant/director, as well as costume and makeup, should have in their head. Regarding markers/green screens/cables and other VFX matters.

Dinner deal
Attendees of the NBF networking drinks can take advantage of a special dinner deal. There is a choice between a one-course menu (€12.50) and a two-course menu (€18.50), to be paid for at the bar upon arrival. Dinner will be served at 18:30 in the Kring restaurant. You can indicate via Eventbrite if you would like to take advantage of the dinner deal. Registrations must be received no later than Friday, August 28.
