This is a highly aesthetic documentary about a very dark subject. The theme of his film includes both a radical minority group but also a critique of radical desire without borders. What is it about? Some call it bestiality. Others call it zoophilia or simply animal lovers....but its all the same thing no matter what label you want to put on it!
The film centers on the story of Kenneth Pinyan (June 22, 1960 - July 2, 2005) who was a Boeing engineer residing in Gig Harbor in the state of Washington. On the weekends he would take a break away from his family and go to a farm near the city of Enumclaw, where he would be on the receiving end of engaged sex with full-size stallions. He videotaped those sex acts and distributed them informally under the name "Mr. Hands". During a July 2005 sex act, videotaped by a friend, he suffered a ruptured colon and later died of his injuries. When the police did an investigation into his death, they discovered an entire community of people who would come on the weekends to this same farm to have sex with animals.

This documentary of the life and death of Pinyan, and the life led by those who came to the farm near Enumclaw, debuted at the Sundance Film Festival 2007. It was one of 16 winners out of 856 candidates for the festival, and played at numerous festivals in the United States thereafter. Following Sundance, it was also selected as one of the top five American films to be presented at the prestigious Directors Fortnight sidebar at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival.

I should mention that there are no disturbing images in this film....only gorgeously shot, haunting images dealing with a disturbing subject.
