Jewish filmmakers in Dutch cinema

The Amsterdam Jewish Film Festival is organized this year by the Jewish Historical Museum (JHM) in collaboration with the Jewish Film Festival Foundation and the Jerusalem Film Festival. From December 9 to 13, films by Jewish filmmakers from the Netherlands will be screened in the evenings, and during the day on December 13, at Kriterion and the JHM. Before and after the screening, there is an opportunity to attend interviews with the respective directors. At the JHM, a kosher-style meal can be enjoyed during the Eat & Greet in the Museum Café.
The festive opening of the Jewish Film Festival takes place at Kriterion, as does the reception that concludes the festival.

Made in Holland focuses on films from the exile period 1933–1940 and the Second World War. These years directly and indirectly influenced the content of films and were decisive for the fate of many Jewish filmmakers.
The flamboyant German director and actor Kurt Gerron, who had emigrated to the Netherlands, made the thriller *The Mystery of the Moonlight Sonata* (1935) based on stories by the Dutch author Willy Corsari. Gerron was murdered in Auschwitz in 1944. His turbulent and cosmopolitan life is portrayed in the 2002 Canadian documentary *Prisoner of Paradise*.
The oldest film being shown this year is *The Secret of Delft* from 1917 by Maurits Binger. The most recent is *Happy End* (2009) by Frans Weisz.
