Film Club presents Canon of YouTube

AMSTERDAM - Film company Upload Cinema and the Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam will present The Canon of YouTube on February 22. They announced this on Thursday.

Upload Cinema is a club of film enthusiasts that presents a collage of internet videos on the big screen every month at De Uitkijk cinema in Amsterdam. To mark YouTube's fifth anniversary, Upload Cinema and the Stadsschouwburg asked over twenty internet specialists to select around thirty videos representative of the range of amateur contributions available on the internet. "It is really about the milestones in the history of online film," states a spokeswoman. The screening of the special collage will take place at the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam.

Upload Cinema has since grown into a minor phenomenon. Every month, the screening at De Uitkijk is sold out. Among the members of the club is Melle Daamen, director of the Stadsschouwburg. Foreign cinemas are also interested in the concept: the first international edition will launch next month in Kaiserslautern, southern Germany. (ANP)
