HAFF leader 2009 selected for Anima

HAFF leader 2009 (USA) by Motomichi Nakamura has been selected for the World Short program at Anima, the Brussels animation film festival starting on February 12.

Motomichi Nakamura (Tokyo, Japan) gained international fame with his work for MTV, de Volkskrant (OOG), VH1, USA Networks, Microsoft, EA, Sony, and Pocari Sweat, and with his music videos for The Knife, Temposhark, and Otto Von Schirach. Motomichi attended the Parsons School of Design. He lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

Motomichi Nakamura on the idea behind the opening credits: 'I focused on three things when working on the opening credits. First, I really wanted the credits to have a fast pace, so that people would feel like they would have to watch them multiple times to follow all the graphic details and cues. Because the animation consists of simple geometric shapes and I wanted to avoid it being too linear, I made the proportions of the objects inconsistent. For example, the main character is the size of a human head at the beginning, but later turns out to be as big as a house. Finally, I wanted a circular pattern in the credits, where the main character falls at both the beginning and the end of the stairs.'
