On March 30, the online thriller Collapsus – Energy Risk Conspiracy will premiere on www.collapsus.com. The production is a collaboration between SubmarineChannel and VPRO Tegenlicht, resulting in the Netherlands' first interactive film.

Looking ahead to the dangers of Peak Oil, the moment when fossil fuels will be depleted, Tegenlicht produced the documentary Energy Risk. Collapsus subsequently delves further into the issues raised in the documentary as a fictional variation, developed into a thrilling interactive experience.

Collapsus is a gripping online thriller in which film, rotoscope animation, and documentary merge into an interactive experience, where tasks and additional background information contribute to the participant's experience. The story takes place over the coming decades and confronts the player with realistic future scenarios surrounding the expected global energy crisis.

American director Tommy Pallotta was brought to the Netherlands to direct. Pallotta, known among other things as the producer of the animated feature film “A Scanner Darkly” (2006, directed by Richard Linklater) and his documentary “American Prince” (2009), shows with this interactive story how various media will increasingly merge in the near future.
“Collapsus is the future of storytelling. A step forward in hybrid entertainment that includes Animation, Fiction, Documentary, and Interactivity mashed together for an online experience like no other.” said Tommy Pallotta.

To get an impression of the project, the VPRO Tegenlicht documentary Energy Risk can already be watched online on the Tegenlicht site. The full version of Collapsus will be available to Dutch visitors from Tuesday, March 30, at www.collapsus.com. The global version is scheduled for April.
