From April 22, the film De Weg Naar C�diz will be showing in cinemas. It is the first feature film made by students of the Netherlands Film and Television Academy. Never before have filmmakers succeeded in producing a film while still a student, getting it selected by the Netherlands Film Festival, and releasing it in cinemas themselves.

Directors Jonathan Herzberg (29) and Shariff Korver (27) wanted to gain experience with a feature film as soon as possible. This is not possible within the film academy programme. Even after graduation, it is difficult for aspiring filmmakers to make a feature film immediately. Therefore, they approached as many professionals as possible to help them and arranged the rest themselves, including the distribution of the film. The budget was less than ten thousand euros.

Cïdiz is a road film about two ex-lovers who meet again after years, still have feelings for each other, and therefore decide to take a trip together to Cïdiz in Spain. According to Herzberg, the film shows how unforgiving time is: "No matter how much they want to, the characters cannot undo the choices they have made. And yet they try. That is painful and moving at the same time."

The lead roles are played by Bart de Vries (Meiden van de Wit, Het Woeden der Gehele Wereld) and Lidewij Benus (Zomerhitte, Juliana).

De Weg Naar Cidiz will be showing in eight theaters throughout the Netherlands starting April 22.
