Director and actress Tamar van den Dop is currently working on the preparations for her second feature film, 'Supernova'. 'Supernova' tells the story of fifteen-year-old Meis, who lives with her parents and grandmother in a small cottage on a bend in the road. Meis wants a grand and exciting life. But nothing happens, except waiting for the next car to ram the facade.

Tamar van den Dop: 'Supernova is a rich, moving, and cinematic story. The existential nature of adolescence, the question of the origin of things, the escape into fantasies and burgeoning sexuality. The 're'discovery of courage but also the feeling of missed opportunities, the stiflingly boring life in the countryside and the yearning for adventure and the big city. With 'Supernova,' I want to create a celebration of life, because the struggle with oneself and each other is often what makes this life so valuable.'

'Supernova' received a production grant from the Netherlands Film Fund last week.

'Supernova' will be an accessible arthouse film that we have worked on with great passion and enthusiasm over the past few years. Together with Tamar's talent, we are certain that we are going to bring a beautiful film to cinemas. We hope to secure further funding for the film this year so that we can realize Supernova this autumn; in any case, the casting is already in full swing.'

'Supernova' is produced by Revolver Media in co-production with IJswater Films, owned by producer Marc Bary, and was developed with support from the Netherlands Film Fund and the Rotterdam Film Fund. The screenplay is based on the Flemish novel 'Mijn vader zegt dat wij levens redden' by Do van Ranst, winner of the Flemish and German Youth Literature Prizes. The Belgian co-producer is Epidemic Film, directed by Koen Mortier.

About the director
Tamar van den Dop graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1993. As an actress, she starred in many award-winning Dutch films and series, such as the Oscar-winning film 'Karakter'. She directed the short films 'Lot' and 'Schat'. Both were Dutch nominations for the Academy Awards and were screened worldwide at festivals and in cinemas. In 2007, her first feature film 'Blind' premiered.
