GIRLS-BOYSMIX is a short documentary about Wen Long, a nine-year-old intersex child. Her body does not conform to the image we have of a man or a woman. At her birth, it was impossible to tell whether she was a boy or a girl. Many of these children undergo surgery at a young age to 'make' them more like a boy or a girl. This did not happen to Wen Long. Her parents leave the choice to her.

Wen Long is very happy that she gets to choose how she goes through life. But that is not easy. Because if you are both a boy and a girl, where do you belong? What is your position in a world divided into male/female?

Money is needed to tell Wen Long's story. To film, but also to show the film to a large audience: in cinemas, art house cinemas, on the streaming service Videoland, and at domestic and international (film) festivals. We also want to use the film for education: at schools, training institutions, and universities, as well as during lectures, conferences, and debates.

With this, Wen Long's greatest wish comes true: namely, that 'the whole world' knows about intersex. So that she never has to explain it to anyone again and it—in Wen Long's words—'becomes just as normal as gay and lesbian'.
