Luuk Bouwman worked for ten years on *The Desert of the Real*, a documentary featuring people who have experienced psychosis, in which he sometimes visually depicts their stories in scenes that never feel dissonant. Bouwman's interest in psychosis stems from family history and his own drug-induced psychosis, but also from a philosophical fascination with the thin line between delusion and reality, which philosopher Wouter Custers immediately exposed in an early interview. The film does not aim to offer an explanation, but it does break the dominant stigma surrounding psychosis by listening without judgment to speakers such as Eloy, Ine, and Jan Gerrit. *The Desert of the Real* will be in theaters from August 13, 2026.
