Gustavo de Carvalho, director of the short film *Barbed Wire* (2024), participated in the IFFR education program, in which thousands of Rotterdam schoolchildren watch films from around the world. His film, which centers on a Brazilian teenage girl struggling with guilt and complex family dynamics, was screened five times for enthusiastic young people who identified with universal themes. De Carvalho emphasizes that such programs have crucial value because they expose young people to unfamiliar cultures and contribute to their development, while he himself was also inspired by films from Norway, Iraq, and Turkey that he saw during the program.
