The EBU, RTL, and Canal+ have sent an urgent letter to the European Commission. They demand that smart TV operating systems such as Android TV, Amazon Fire OS, and Samsung Tizen be subject to the strictest EU regulations. According to the broadcasters, these platforms are increasingly determining what consumers see. As a result, traditional media threaten to disappear from view. Virtual assistants such as Alexa and Siri also pose a problem. These are not yet covered by the Digital Markets Act, creating loopholes via smartphones and car radio systems. The broadcasters demand immediate intervention. The European Commission is currently investigating the letter.
