The Dutch public broadcaster is reorganizing into four broadcasting houses by 2029, but the power dynamics are already taking shape. The cuts affect broadcasters very unevenly: BNNVARA is losing 79 jobs, approximately one in six FTEs. VPRO is eliminating 58 jobs, NTR 43, KRO-NCRV 35, HUMAN 14, and AVROTROS 13. Omroep MAX and PowNed have not yet reported comparable reorganizations. Those who downsize significantly before 2029 start the collaboration in a weaker position. This impacts the distribution of management, editorial staff, and production capacity. Previous mergers at BNNVARA and KRO-NCRV show that smaller partners typically lose their culture and identity to the stronger organization.
